Ahmad ibn al-Hasan al-Thaqafi, we were told by Ubayd ibn al-Hasan ibn Yusuf, we were told by Muhammad ibn Mu'awiyah, we were told by Ziyad ibn Abd Allah ibn al-Tufayl ibn Sakhbarah, the nephew of A'ishah on her mother's side, we were told by Umar ibn Ya'la from al-Minhal ibn Amr and from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn Abbas, who said: "The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) provided expiation with a sa' of dates and commanded the people to do so, and whoever did not find [that], then half a sa' of wheat." Narrated by Ibn 'Adi in Al-Kamil (5/1692) and Ibn Kathir in Al-Tafsir (2/89).

1194: 6729: Lawful: 1: Al-Shafi'i and others said: It must be a believing [slave]—meaning the freed neck—and they took the restriction of faith from the expiation for killing due to the unity of the requirement, even if the cause differs. [This is] also from the hadith of Mu'awiyah ibn al-Hakam al-Sulami, which is in the Muwatta of Malik, the Musnad of al-Shafi'i, and Sahih Muslim, that he mentioned that he was required to free a slave, and he brought with him a black slave girl. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said to her: "Where is Allah?" She said: "In the heaven." He said: "Who am I?" She said: "The Messenger of Allah." He said: "Free her, for she is a believer." Sahih (authentic). Narrated by Muslim in (Al-Masajid, h/33), Malik in (Al-Muwatta, p/777), al-Nasa'i in (Al-Sahw, Chapter "20"), Abu Dawud (h/3284), Ahmad (2/291, 5/449), al-Majma' (1/23, 4/244), al-Manthur (2/193), al-Qurtubi (4/81, 7/332), Mukhtasar al-'Uluw (81), Muwdih (1/195), al-Tamhid (7/134, 135, 9/115), and Ibn Abi
