Kafirun (Disbelievers): 1: Ibn Kathir said in his exegesis of this verse: Meaning: And He wants to cause them to die while they are in a state of disbelief, so that it may be more humiliating for them and more severe in their punishment—may Allah protect us from that—and this is a form of 'istidraj' (gradual drawing toward punishment) regarding what they are in.
