one who incurs debt through foolishness shall not be given from it, nor from anything else, unless he repents. One who possesses wealth but is surrounded by debt that encompasses it is given enough to settle his debt. If he has no wealth and is in debt, he is considered both a poor person and a debtor, and is thus given based on both descriptions.

Muslim narrated from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri who said: A man suffered a loss in the time of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) regarding fruits he had purchased, and his debt became heavy. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Give charity to him." People gave charity to him, but it was not enough to satisfy his debt. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said to his creditors: "Take what you find, and you shall have nothing but that." Narrated by Muslim in (Al-Musaqat, H/18), Al-Muntaqa (1027), Abu Dawud in (Al-Buyu', chapter 60), Al-Nasa'i (7/312), Al-Tirmidhi (H/655), Ibn Majah (H/2356), Ahmad (3/36, 58), Al-Bayhaqi (5/305, 6/50), Al-Hakim (2/41), Al-Fath (5/66, 399), Al-Irwa' (5/273), Mushkil (2/360), Ibn Abi Shaybah (7/319), Al-Kanz (10480), Al-Qurtubi (3/372, 8/184), and Ma'ani (4/36).

The Mujahidin (those who struggle in the way of Allah): 1: Narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "There are three whom it is a duty for Allah to help: the warrior (ghazi) in the way of Allah, the Mukatab (slave under a contract of manumission) who desires to pay off his contract, and the one who marries desiring chastity." Narrated by Al-Tirmidhi (H/1655), Al-Nasa'i (6/61), Al-Khafa' (1/361, 217, 384)
