of truth. And 'forgetting' here means abandoning; they abandoned what Allah commanded them, so He abandoned them in doubt. It is also said that they abandoned His command until it became as though it were forgotten, so He treated them as those who are forgotten from His reward. Qatada said: "He forgot them," meaning: from the good, but as for the evil, He did not forget them.

And children: 1: Al-Zajjaj said: The 'Kaf' (particle of comparison) is in a position of accusative, meaning: Allah promised the disbelievers the fire of Hell as a promise, just as He promised those who were before them. It is also said: The meaning is: You have done actions like the actions of those before you in commanding the evil and forbidding the good, so the additional noun was omitted. It is also said: Meaning, you are like those who were before you; so the 'Kaf' is in a position of nominative because it is the predicate of an omitted subject.
