: 10582. Before you: 2: Al-Qurtubi said: The address is directed to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, but the intended meaning is someone else; that is: You are not in doubt, but someone other than you is in doubt.
Abu Umar Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahid al-Zahid said: I heard the two Imams, Tha'lab and al-Mubarrad, say: The meaning of "So if you are in doubt" is: Say, O Muhammad, to the disbeliever: "So if you are in doubt about that which We have revealed to you."
1986: 10585. And peace: 1: Al-Qutaybi said: This is an address to whoever was not certain about denying Muhammad nor about believing in him, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, but rather was in doubt.
It is also said: The address is intended for the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and no one else, and the meaning is: If you were among those whom doubt could reach regarding what I have informed you of, then ask the People of the Book, and they would remove the doubt from you. It is also said: "The doubt" means the constriction of the chest, i.e., if your chest is constricted by the disbelief of these people, then be patient, and ask those who read the Book before you; they will inform you of the patience of the prophets before you regarding the harm of their people and how the outcome of their affair was.
1987: 10595. The verse: 1: In the hadith: "The prophets were shown to me, and the prophet would pass by with a group of followers, and the prophet would pass by with one or two men, and the prophet would pass by with no one with him." Ibn Kathir (4/231), Al-Hilya (2/13), Al-Bayhaqi (1/453), Al-Tabarani (18/241), and Al-Sahihah (3/104).
1988: 10600. The world: 1: Al-Qurtubi said in the interpretation of this verse: Meaning: The torment which Jonah promised them would descend upon them, not that they saw it with their own eyes or in their imagination; and based on this difficulty, there is no contradiction or specification, and Allah knows best.
