it, then the punishment has encompassed them. It is like your saying: A severe day, meaning: severe in its heat. There is disagreement regarding that punishment: it is said: It is the punishment of the Fire in the Hereafter. It is also said: It is the punishment of total annihilation in this world.
It is also said: High prices; the meaning of this is narrated from Ibn Abbas.
In the hadith from the Prophet (peace be upon him): "Never do a people show deficiency in weights and measures except that Allah afflicts them with drought and high prices." Al-Qurtubi in his "Tafsir": (9/86).
