Page number: 2105: Hadith number: 11355: Citation text: Clear: 1: Ibn Kathir said: They meant in his preferring them over us, and his loving them more than us. Know that no evidence has been established regarding the prophethood of Joseph's brothers, and the apparent meaning of this context indicates the opposite. Some people claim that revelation was sent to them after that, but this is a matter that requires scrutiny, and the proponent of this claim needs evidence. They have cited nothing other than the saying of the Most High: "Say: We believe in Allah and what has been sent down to us, and what was sent down to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes (al-Asbat)." This is open to interpretation, for the descendants of the Children of Israel are called al-Asbat, just as the Arabs are called tribes (qaba'il) and non-Arabs are called peoples (shu'ub).

2109: 11379: Their affair: 1: Ibn Abbas said: He will inform them of this deed of yours regarding your right, while they do not know you and do not perceive you. As Ibn Jarir said: Al-Harith narrated to me, Abd al-Aziz narrated to us, Sadaqah bin Ubadah al-Asadi narrated to us, from his father, I heard Ibn Abbas saying: When Joseph's brothers entered upon him, he recognized them, but they were strangers to him. The drinking cup (suwa') was brought, and he placed it on his hand, then he tapped it.
