He incited them, gave them glad tidings, and commanded them not to despair of the mercy (rawh) of Allah, meaning: do not cut off their hope and expectation from Allah regarding what they seek and intend, for hope is not cut off, and "none despair of the mercy (rawh) of Allah except the disbelieving people."
2190: 11915: Adversity (al-durr): 1: The saying of the Almighty: "They said, O Aziz, adversity has touched us and our family," they mean: from the drought, famine, and scarcity of food.
2191: 11918: And we have brought merchandise (wa ji'na bi-bida'ah): 1: The saying of the Almighty: "And we have brought merchandise," the merchandise (bida'ah) is a piece of property intended to purchase something. You say: I made something a commodity (abda'tu al-shay') and I sought it as a commodity (istabda'tuhu), meaning I made it merchandise. The proverb says: "Like one bringing dates to Hajar."
: 11919: Meager (muzjah): 2: Tha'lab said regarding the saying of the Almighty: "meager (muzjah)," the meager merchandise is the deficient, not complete one.
2193: 11937: Ignorant (jahilun): 1: Al-Qurtubi said in the interpretation of this verse: Meaning, only ignorance of the gravity of what you committed has led you to this, as some of the predecessors said: Everyone who disobeys Allah is ignorant.
2194: 11945: Indeed we were sinners (kunna la-khati'in): 1: Al-Qurtubi said in the interpretation of this verse: Meaning, sinful, from the verb "to sin" (khati'a) and "he sins" (yakhta'u) when one commits a sin, and within this is a request for pardon. It was said to Ibn Abbas: How did they say: "Indeed we were sinners," while they did it intentionally? He replied: Even if they did it intentionally, they did not intend it until they had sinned against the truth; and likewise, everyone who commits a sin has deviated (takhatta) from the path of truth he was on, until he falls into doubt and disobedience.
