ordained for them that they should say that, so that they may bear their burdens and some of the burdens of those who follow them and agree with them—meaning: the sin of their misguidance will be upon them regarding themselves, and the sin of leading others astray and those others following them [will also be upon them]—as it came in the Hadith: "Whoever invites to guidance will have a reward similar to the rewards of those who follow him, without that diminishing anything from their rewards."
