an outrageous falsehood." And since panic and faint-heartedness are likened to disintegration, it was appropriate, in describing steadfastness and strength of resolve, to liken it to binding (rabt). From this, one says: "So-and-so is steadfast (rabit al-ja'sh)," when his heart does not break or scatter in the face of fear, war, or other things. From this also is the "binding upon the heart of the mother of Musa." And the Almighty's saying: "And let it bind upon your hearts and make the feet firm therewith."

12727: Tyranny (jawran): 3: Al-Manthur: (5/370-371).

12728: The speech (al-qawl): 4: Al-Manthur: (5/370-371).

12729: Allah (Allah): 5: His saying, the Almighty: "And when you withdraw from them." It is said: It is from the speech of Allah - the Almighty - to them, meaning: when you withdraw from them and withdraw from what they worship. And it is said: It is from the speech of their leader, Yamlikha, as mentioned by Ibn:

12731: Two mountains (jabalayn): 6: Atiyyah.

12732: Provisions (ghidha'): 7: Al-Manthur: (5/371).

12733: You leave them (tadharuhum): 8: The previous source.

2352: 12734: From it (minhu): 1: The previous source.

His saying, the Almighty: "And they are in a wide space thereof (fajwah minhu)" - meaning: from the cave. And 'al-fajwah' is the wide, open space, and its plural is 'fajwat', which comes like 'rakwah', 'raka'', and 'rakawat'.

12735: Asleep (ruqud): 2: Al-Manthur: (5/372).

12736: Once (marrah): 3: Ibn Abbas said: "And the turning (al-taqlib)" is so that the earth does not consume their flesh. Abu Hurayrah said: They had two turnings each year. It is also said: Once every year. Mujahid said: Once every seven years. A group said: They were turned only in the last nine years, but not during the three hundred. The apparent view of the exegetes is that the turning was an act of Allah. It is also permissible that it was by an angel under the command of Allah, so it is attributed to Allah Almighty.
