...to such-and-such place, another to Syria, and another to Iraq, to ask if any locusts had been seen or not? He said:

The rider from Yemen came to him with a handful of locusts and threw them before him. When he saw them, he proclaimed Allahu Akbar (God is Great) three times, then said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "Allah, the Exalted, created a community consisting of a thousand (species/units): six hundred in the sea and four hundred on land. The first thing to perish from these communities is the locust. When it perishes, they follow one another like a string of beads when its thread is cut."

Al-Manthur (1/13), Matalib (2339), al-Kanz (31484), and al-Majma' (7/322), attributing it to Abu Ya'la, in which is 'Ubayd ibn Waqid al-Laythi, and he is weak. Ibn Kathir (1/39, 3/249), al-Bidayah (1/29), al-Khatib (11/218), al-La'ali' (1/43), Tanzih (1/190), Ibn 'Adi in "al-Kamil" (5/1910), Ibn al-Qaysarani (423), and al-Mawdu'at (3/4).

Abu Hatim ibn Hibban said: "This is something that there is no doubt is fabricated; it is not from the speech of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)."
