Muslim narrated from the hadith of 'Amr ibn al-Sharid, from his father, who said: I rode behind the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) one day, and he said: "Do you have with you anything of the poetry of Umayyah ibn Abi al-Salt?" I said: Yes. He said: "Proceed [more]," so I recited a verse to him. He said: "Proceed [more]," then I recited a verse to him. He said: "Proceed [more]," then I recited a hundred verses to him. It was narrated by Muslim in (Al-Shi'r, h/1), Ahmad (4/390), Al-Bayhaqi (10/226), Ibn Abi Shaybah (8/504), Al-Tabarani (7/377), Al-Bukhari in "Al-Adab al-Mufrad" (799), Fath (7/154), Al-Mishkah (4787), Al-Qurtubi (13/145), and Al-Humaydi (809).

2832: 16054: The poets (al-shu'ara'): 1: Muslim narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "That one of you should have his belly filled with pus until it consumes him is better than that he should have his belly filled with poetry."
