2835: 16072: Others than them: 1: Abu al-Hasan al-Mubarrad said: When "The Poets" was revealed, Hassan, Ka'b ibn Malik, and Ibn Rawahah came crying to the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and said: O Prophet of Allah! Allah the Exalted has revealed this verse, and He the Exalted knows that we are poets? He said: "Read what comes after it, 'Except those who believe and do righteous deeds' [the verse]—you are [meant], and 'They vindicate themselves after they have been wronged'—you are [meant], i.e., by refuting the polytheists." The Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Vindicate yourselves..."
