: 13754: For the scrolls: 3: Ibn 'Abbas said in the interpretation of this verse: That is, like folding a scroll upon what is in it, so the lam (preposition) has the meaning of "upon" ('ala). Ibn 'Abbas also said, as did Ibn 'Umar and al-Suddi: "Al-Sijill" (the scroll) is an angel, and he is the one who folds up the scrolls/books of the Children of Adam when they are raised up to him.
