each bone adhered to its body, so they became bodies of bones, without flesh or blood. Then Allah revealed to him: "Call out: O bones, Allah commands you to be covered with flesh!" Then He revealed to him: "Call out: O bodies, Allah commands you to rise!" And they were raised up alive.
2421 - Abu Sa'id b. Yahya b. Sa'id al-Qattan narrated to us, al-'Anqazi reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from Mansur, from Mujahid, who said: Their speech when they were raised was that they said, "Glory be to You, our Lord, and with Your praise; there is no deity except You."
Then he returned to the hadith of al-Suddi from Abu Malik, who said: Then they returned to their lands, and they would not wear a garment except that it would appear on them as a greasy shroud. The people of that time recognized them as having been dead. Then they returned to their lands and remained until their appointed times came to them after that.
2422 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr b. Hammad reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi, similarly, and added therein: So they were told, "Die," and they died. When they had perished and their bodies had decayed, a prophet passed by them called Hizqil [Ezekiel]. When he saw them, he stood over them and began to reflect upon them, twisting his lip and fingers. Allah revealed to him: "O Hizqil, do you wish that I show you how I bring them to life?"—and his reflection was because he was astonished at Allah's power over them—so he said, "Yes." It was said to him, "Call out: O bones." And the rest is similar.
2423 - Hajjaj b. Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah reported to us, Warqa' reported to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "Have you not seen those who left their homes while they were in the thousands, fearing death": He said: I heard 'Amr b. Dinar saying: The plague occurred in their town, so some departed and some remained, and those who departed were more numerous than those who remained. Allah saved those who departed, and those who remained perished. When the second [time] came, they all departed except for a few, so Allah caused them and their beasts to die, then He brought them back to life. They returned to their country, and their offspring and those they had left behind had multiplied, so they became numerous.
His saying, the Exalted: "Indeed, Allah is full of bounty to the people, but most of the people do not give thanks."
2424 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad b. Abi al-Hawari reported to us, Rabah reported to us, 'Abd Allah b. Sulayman reported to us, Musa b. Abi al-Sabah reported to us, regarding the saying of Allah, the Almighty and Majestic: "Indeed, Allah is full of bounty to the people."
(1). Ibn Kathir 1/440. He said: More than one of the predecessors mentioned that these people were the people of a village in the time of the Children of Israel. (2). Tafsir Mujahid 1/102.
