His saying, the Almighty: "They said, 'And why should we not fight in the way of Allah when we have been driven out from our homes and our children?'"
2448 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya reported to us, Ibn Lahi'ah reported to us, 'Ata' narrated to me, from Sa'id regarding His saying: "in the way of Allah"—he means: in the obedience of Allah, the Almighty and Majestic.
2449 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr b. Hammad reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "And why should we not fight in the way of Allah when we have been driven out from our homes and our children?"—by the payment of the jizyah (tribute).
His saying, the Almighty: "But when fighting was prescribed for them, they turned away, except for a few of them. And Allah is Knowing of the wrongdoers."
2450 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya b. 'Abd Allah b. Bukayr reported to us, 'Abd Allah b. Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' b. Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah the Almighty "kutiba" (prescribed)—he means: made obligatory.
His saying, the Almighty: "And their prophet said to them, 'Indeed, Allah has sent to you Talut (Saul) as a king.'"
2451 - Hajjaj b. Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah reported to us, Warqa' reported to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid(1): "And their prophet said to them, 'Indeed, Allah has sent to you Talut as a king'"—he said: Talut was a commander over the army. Abu Dawud then sent Dawud (David) with something to his brothers. Dawud said to Talut: "What is for me if I kill Jalut (Goliath)?" He replied: "You shall have a third of my kingdom, and I will give you my daughter in marriage." So he took a pouch and put three pebbles(2) in it, then he named his stones: Ibrahim, Ishaq, and Ya'qub. He went forth against Ibrahim, placed it in his sling, and threw it at Jalut. It pierced thirty-three layers of his armor and killed thirty thousand behind him.
2452 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr b. Hammad reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi: "And their prophet said to them, 'Indeed, Allah has sent to you Talut as a king'"—the people said: I have never heard anything more false than this at this moment."
