The second interpretation:

2510 - My father narrated to us, al-Himmany reported to us, Ya'qub al-Ash'ari reported to us, from Ja'far b. Abi al-Mughirah, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, regarding His saying: "So they drank from it, except a few of them," he said: The few were three hundred and some odd, the number of the companions of Badr.

His saying, the Exalted: "Then when he had crossed it, he and those who believed with him"

2511 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr b. Hammad reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "Then when he had crossed it, he and those who believed with him," he said: Four thousand crossed with him, and seventy-six thousand returned.

2512 - 'Ali b. al-Husayn narrated to us, al-Haytham b. Yaman reported to us, a man whose name he mentioned reported to us, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding "Then when he had crossed it, he and those who believed with him," he said: Those who drank were stripped of faith, while those who scooped with their hands were affirmed; thus, He affirmed faith for them.

His saying: "And those who believed with him"

[The first interpretation]

Kathir reported to us, Sufyan reported to us, from Abu Ishaq, from al-Bara' who said: We used to discuss that the companions of Muhammad on the day of Badr were three hundred and some odd, the same number as the companions of Talut who crossed the river or the sea with him, and none crossed with him except a believer.

And the second interpretation:

2514 - 'Ali b. al-Husayn narrated to us, Musaddad reported to us, Yahya reported to us, from Thabit b. 'Umarah, Ghunaym b. Qays narrated to me, he said: The Ash'ari said to us: You are today the same number as the companions of Talut on the day of Jalut. He asked: How many were you? He replied: Two hundred and fifty, or three hundred and fifty.

[And the third interpretation:]

2515 - My father narrated to us, Yahya al-Himmany reported to us, Ya'qub, meaning al-Qummi, reported to us, from Ja'far b. Abi al-Mughirah, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, who said: The number of the companions of Talut was the number of the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) on the day of Badr... three hundred and sixty.
