David said to him: "Nay, you are an enemy of Allah, worse than a dog." David took a stone and threw it with the sling, hitting him between his eyes until it penetrated into his brain. Jalut cried out and those with him were defeated, and David severed his head.

2527 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad b. 'Abd al-Rahman reported to us, 'Abd Allah b. Abi Ja'far reported to us from his father, from al-Rabi', he said: Jalut came with a large number and equipment. "And when they appeared before Jalut and his soldiers, they said: Our Lord, pour out patience upon us, and make our feet firm, and help us against the disbelieving people."

His saying: "Our Lord, pour out patience upon us"

2528 - 'Ali b. al-Husayn narrated to us, al-Haytham b. Yaman reported to us, Sinan b. Harun reported to us, Abu Hamzah reported to us, from 'Ali b. al-Husayn, he said: When Allah gathers the first and the last [generations], a caller will proclaim: "Where are the patient? Let them enter Paradise before the reckoning." He said: Then a group of people will stand, and the angels will meet them and say: "To where, O sons of Adam?" They will say: "To Paradise." They will say: "Even before the reckoning?" They will say: "Yes." They will say: "And who are you?" They will say: "The patient." They will say: "And what was your patience?" They will say: "We were patient in the obedience of Allah, and we were patient against the disobedience of Allah, until Allah took our souls." They will say: "You are as you have said; enter Paradise, for excellent is the reward of the [righteous] workers."

His saying, the Exalted: "And make our feet firm"

2529 - Muhammad b. al-'Abbas narrated to us, Muhammad b. 'Amr reported to us, Salamah reported to us, Muhammad b. Ishaq said: "And make our feet firm," he said: They asked Him to make their feet firm.

His saying, the Exalted: "And help us against the disbelieving people"

And by the same chain, Muhammad b. Ishaq said: "And help us against the disbelieving people," he said: They sought His help against the disbelieving people.

His saying, the Exalted: "So they defeated them by the permission of Allah, and David killed Jalut"

2530 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr b. Hammad reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi: "And when they appeared before Jalut and his soldiers, they said: Our Lord, pour out patience upon us." Abu Dawud crossed [the river] with him that day among those who crossed, along with thirteen sons of his, and David was the youngest of his sons. One day he came to him and said: "O my father, I do not throw anything with my sling but that I strike it down." He said: "Rejoice, for Allah has placed your provision in your sling."
