Then he came to him another day and said: "O my father, I entered between the mountains and found a lion crouching, so I rode upon it and took it by its ears, and it did not agitate me." He said: "Rejoice, O my son, for this is a goodness that Allah has given you." Then he came to him another day and said: "O my father, I walk between the mountains and I glorify Allah, and there remains no mountain but that it glorifies with me." He said: "Rejoice, O my son, for this is a goodness that Allah has given you." David was a shepherd, and his father was behind him, coming to him and to his brothers with food. He came to the Prophet with a horn containing oil and a garment of iron, and sent it to Talut, saying: "Your companion, who will kill Jalut, this horn will be placed on his head, and it will boil when he applies the oil from it; it will not run down his face, but will remain on his head like a crown, and he will fit into this garment and fill it." Talut called the Children of Israel and tested them with it, but none of them matched it. When they finished, Talut said to David’s father: "Do you have any son left who has not appeared before us?" He said: "Yes, David remains; he is the one who brings us our food." When David came, he passed by three stones on the road, and they spoke to him, saying: "O David, take us, that you may kill Jalut with us." He took them and placed them in a pouch—for Talut had said: "Whoever kills Jalut, I will marry my daughter to him and grant his seal in my kingdom." When David came, they placed the horn on his head, and it boiled when he applied the oil from it, and he wore the garment and filled it—he was a sickly and sallow man—and no one from the Children of Israel had worn it without being loose in it. When David wore it, the garment tightened upon him until it fitted. Then he walked to Jalut, and Jalut was among the most massive and strongest of people. When he looked at David, terror was cast into his heart from him, and he said to him: "O youth, turn back, for I am merciful to you, that I might [not] kill you." David said: "No, rather I will kill you." He brought out the stones and placed them in the sling. Every time he lifted a stone, he named it and said: "In the name of my father Abraham," and the second: "In the name of my father Isaac," and the third: "In the name of my father Israel." Then he rotated the sling, and the stones became as one stone. Then he released it, and it struck between the eyes of Jalut, and it pierced his head, and then it killed him. He did not cease killing every person it struck, passing through them, until when no one remained in its path, he defeated him at that, and David killed Jalut. Talut returned, married his daughter to David, and granted his seal in his kingdom.
