al-'Aliyah: "And of the people is he whose speech pleases you in worldly life," he said: This was a man of good speech but evil deeds. He would come to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and speak well.
1912 - My father narrated to us, Hamzah b. Jamil al-Rabadhi narrated to us, Abu Ma'shar narrated to us, from Muhammad b. Ka'b al-Qurazi, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah has servants whose tongues are sweeter than honey and whose hearts are more bitter than aloe. They wear sheep's wool for the people in terms of softness, (but) they deceive the world with religion. So Allah the Almighty says: 'Do you dare against Me, and do you deceive Me? By My Might, I will surely send upon them a trial that leaves the forbearing among them bewildered.'" We said: "O Abu Hamzah, is there a description for them in the Book of Allah?" He said: "Yes, the saying of Allah the Almighty: 'And of the people is he whose speech pleases you in worldly life' until His saying: 'And Allah does not like corruption.'"(1)
1913 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr b. Hammad b. Talhah narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi: "And of the people is he whose speech pleases you in worldly life," he said: It was revealed regarding al-Akhnas b. Shariq al-Thaqafi, who was an ally of the Banu Zuhrah.

Ishaq, Muhammad, a mawla of the family of Zayd b. Thabit, narrated to me, from 'Ikrimah or Sa'id b. Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "And he calls Allah to witness as to what is in his heart"—it is (in reality) contrary to what he says with his tongue.
1915 - al-Hajjaj b. Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid: "And he calls Allah to witness," (i.e.,) in a dispute, while he only intends (to appear) for the truth.
