[His saying: And We supported him with the Holy Spirit]

His saying: "And if Allah had willed, those [who were] after them would not have fought each other after the clear proofs had come to them. But they differed, and then some of them believed and some of them disbelieved."
[The first interpretation]
2556 - Sahl b. Bahr al-'Askari narrated to us, Husayn b. al-Aswad reported to us, 'Amr b. Muhammad reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi, from his companions, regarding the saying of Allah: "The clear proofs"—he said: The lawful and the unlawful.
The second interpretation:
2557 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr b. Hammad b. Talhah reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi regarding: "after the clear proofs had come to them"—he said: After Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) came to you.
His saying, the Exalted: "But they differed"
2558 - Muhammad b. Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas b. al-Walid al-Narsi informed us, Yazid b. Zuray' reported to us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "But they differed"—meaning the Jews and the Christians. He says: This Quran was for them, yet they differed regarding it.
His saying: "And then some of them believed and some of them disbelieved"
2559 - 'Ali b. al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad b. al-'Ala' reported to us, 'Uthman b. Sa'id reported to us, Bishr b. 'Umarah reported to us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "believed"—he said: They affirmed.
2560 - My father narrated to us, Nasr b. 'Ali reported to us, my father informed me, from Khalid b. Qays, from Qatadah, who said: He believed in His Book.
2561 - Muhammad b. al-'Abbas, the freed slave of Banu Hashim, narrated to us, Abu Ghassan Muhammad b. 'Amr Zunayj reported to us, Salamah b. al-Fadl reported to us, from Muhammad b. Ishaq, who said: When Allah willed by His power the honoring of Islam and its people, and the debasing of disbelief and its people, He did what He willed of that through His kindness.
