Translation · EN

The Second Perspective:

2575 - Ali b. al-Hasan narrated to us, 'Isa al-Sa'igh reported to us in Baghdad, Sa'id b. 'Abd al-'Aziz reported to us, from Sufyan b. Husayn, from al-Hasan: The Sustainer (al-Qayyum) is the One who has no cessation within Him.

His saying: "Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep"

[The First Perspective]

2576 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih reported to us, Mu'awiyah b. Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali b. Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Neither drowsiness (sinah) overtakes Him"—he said: Sinah is slumber (nu'as).

2577 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr b. Hammad b. Talhah reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi: "Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep," as for drowsiness: it is the precursor to sleep, which affects the face so that a person becomes drowsy.

It was reported from al-Hasan, al-Dahhak, Qatadah, Yahya b. Rafi', Sa'id b. Jubayr, and 'Ikrimah similarly.

And the Second Perspective:

2578 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Hafs b. 'Umar al-Tamimi reported to us, from Idris, from 'Atiyyah: "Neither drowsiness overtakes Him"—He does not tire (yaftur).

And the Third Perspective:

2579 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad b. 'Abd al-Rahman reported to us, 'Abd Allah b. Abi Ja'far reported to us, from his father, from al-Rabi': "Neither drowsiness overtakes Him"—Drowsiness is the state of being half-asleep, between being asleep and being awake.

His saying: "Nor sleep"

[The First Perspective]

2580 - Ahmad b. al-Qasim b. 'Atiyyah narrated to us, Ahmad b. 'Abd al-Rahman al-Dashtaki reported to us, my father narrated to us from his father, al-Ash'ath b. Ishaq reported to us, from Ja'far b. Abi al-Mughirah, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas: That the Children of Israel said: "O Musa, does your Lord sleep?" He said: "Fear Allah." Then his Lord called out to him: "O Musa, they have asked you if your Lord sleeps; so take two glass vials in your hands and stand throughout the night." Musa did so. When a third of the night had passed, he became drowsy and fell onto his knees, then he recovered and held them tight. When it was the last part of the night, he became drowsy, and the two vials fell and broke. He said: "O Musa, if I were to sleep, the heavens and the earth would have fallen and perished just as the two vials in your hands have perished." Then Allah revealed to His Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) the Ayat al-Kursi.
