His saying: "While he is the most argumentative of opponents"
[The First Interpretation]
1918 - Muhammad b. al-'Abbas narrated to us, Muhammad b. 'Amr Zunayj narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad b. Ishaq, Muhammad, a mawla of the family of Zayd b. Thabit, narrated to me, from 'Ikrimah or Sa'id b. Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas: "While he is the most argumentative of opponents," meaning: prone to argumentation when he speaks to you and disputes with you.
1919 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab narrated to us, Bishr b. 'Umarah reported to us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas, he says: Severe in opposition.
The Second Interpretation:
1920 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Hafs b. Ghiyath narrated to us, from 'Asim, from al-Hasan: "While he is the most argumentative of opponents," he said: A liar in his speech.
It was narrated from Muhammad b. Ka'b similar to what al-Hasan said.
The Third Interpretation:
1921 - Hajjaj b. Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "The most argumentative of opponents"—unjust, he does not walk straight. It was narrated from 'Ata' al-Khurasani similar to the statement of Mujahid.
The Fourth Interpretation:
1922 - Musa b. Harun al-Tusi narrated to us in what he wrote to me, al-Husayn b. Muhammad al-Marrudhi narrated to us, Shayban narrated to us, from Qatadah(1): "While he is the most argumentative of opponents," he said: Extremely harsh in his disobedience to Allah, argumentative with falsehood.
The Fifth Interpretation:
1923 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr b. Hammad narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi: "While he is the most argumentative of opponents," meaning: the crookedest of opponents.
