2617 - Muhammad b. Sa'd reported to us in what he wrote to me, my father reported to us, my paternal uncle al-Husayn reported to us from his father, from his grandfather, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding his saying: "There is no compulsion in the religion. Right-mindedness has become clear from error." He said: This is because when people entered into Islam, the People of the Scripture paid the Jizya to them.

2618 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Waki' reported to us from Sufyan, from Abu Ishaq, from Hassan b. Fa'id, from 'Umar b. al-Khattab: The Taghut is Satan.

He said: The Taghut is what exists before the idols, where they disseminate lies about them in order to lead people astray.

2620 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, 'Uqbah reported to us, from Hanash b. al-Harith: I heard al-Sha'bi say: The Taghut is the sorcerer.

[The fourth interpretation]

2621 - Hajjaj b. Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah reported to us, Warqa' reported to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "in Taghut." He said: It is Satan in human form to whom they seek judgment, and he is the one in charge of their affairs.

[The fifth interpretation]

2622 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yunus b. 'Abd al-A'la reported to us, Ibn Wahb reported to us, saying: Malik said to me: The Taghut is that which they worship besides Allah.
