believers in him before he was sent. Then when Allah sent him, they disbelieved, rejected, and denied him. That is their coming out of the light, meaning from their belief in Muhammad (peace be upon him) before that, and by the darknesses, he means: their disbelief in Muhammad (peace be upon him).
It is narrated from al-Rabi' b. Anas, Qatadah, and Abu Malik similar to that.
2633 - My father narrated to us, 'Ali b. Maysarah reported to us, 'Abd al-'Aziz b. Abi 'Uthman reported to us, from Musa b. 'Ubaydah, from Ayyub b. Khalid, he said: The people of whims will be resurrected, or the trials (fitan) will be resurrected; whoever had faith as their desire, their trial was white and luminous, and whoever had disbelief as their desire, their trial was black and dark. Then he recited this verse: "Allah is the ally of those who believe. He brings them out from darknesses into the light."
His saying, the Exalted: "Those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally."
Its interpretation has already preceded. (No. 39).

2634 - Yunus b. Habib narrated to us, Abu Dawud reported to us, Shu'bah reported to us, from Simak b. Harb, a man from Banu Asad informed me, he said: I heard 'Ali saying: The one who argued with Abraham about his Lord was Nimrod b. Kan'an.

Abi al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Ma'mar informed us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "Have you not considered the one who argued with Abraham about his Lord, because Allah had given him kingship," [meaning] because the Tyrant (al-Jabbar) gave him kingship. He said: He is a tyrant, his name is Nimrod b. Kan'an, and he is the first one who acted tyrannically on earth, [and he] argued with Abraham about his Lord.
His saying: "When Abraham said, 'My Lord is the one who gives life and causes death.' [Nimrod] said, 'I give life and cause death.' Abraham said, 'Indeed, Allah brings the sun from the East, so bring it from the West.'"
2636 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr b. Hammad b. Talhah reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi,
