His saying, the Exalted: "And does not believe in Allah and the Last Day."
2744 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Safwan b. Salih reported to us, al-Walid reported to us, Bukayr b. Ma'ruf informed me, from Muqatil b. Hayyan regarding the saying of Allah: "And does not believe in Allah and the Last Day," meaning: The hypocrite.
2745 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya b. 'Abd Allah b. Bukayr reported to us, 'Abd Allah b. Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' narrated to me, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, regarding His saying: "And does not believe in Allah," meaning: They do not affirm the Oneness of Allah.
His saying, the Exalted: "So his likeness is the likeness of a smooth rock [safwan]."
2746 - Al-Hasan b. Ahmad narrated to us, Ishaq b. Isma'il reported to us, Yazid reported to us, Sa'id reported to us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "So his likeness is the likeness of a smooth rock upon which is dust," he said: "This is a parable Allah the Exalted set forth for the deeds of the disbelievers on the Day of Resurrection."
His saying: "A smooth rock upon which is dust."
2747 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih the scribe of al-Layth reported to us, Mu'awiyah b. Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali b. Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Safwan," meaning: The stone. It was also narrated from 'Ikrimah, al-Hasan, al-Suddi, al-Rabi' b. Anas, Qatadah, and Muqatil b. Hayyan similarly.
2748 - Muhammad b. Hammad al-Tahrani narrated to us, Hafs b. 'Umar (meaning al-'Adani) informed us, al-Hakam b. Aban reported to us, from 'Ikrimah, regarding His saying: "Then a heavy rain struck it," and the 'wabil' is: The rain, "and it left it bare."
It was narrated from Wahb b. Munabbih, al-Suddi, 'Ata' al-Khurasani, al-Hasan, al-Rabi' b. Anas, Muqatil b. Hayyan, and Qatadah similarly, except that al-Rabi' b. Anas and Qatadah said: "The heavy rain."
His saying, the Exalted: "Leaving it bare."
2749 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab b. al-Harith reported to us, Bishr b. 'Umarah informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Leaving it bare," he says: "It left it dry, barren, producing nothing."
His saying, the Exalted: "They shall have no power over anything of what they have earned. And Allah does not guide the disbelieving people."
