Muqatil b. Hayyan regarding the saying of Allah: "They shall have no power over anything of what they have earned," he means by it: Their expenditures. That they will not be rewarded for them, and they will not benefit them on the Day of Resurrection. Muqatil, whatever he interpreted, he interpreted it from men among the Successors (al-Tabi'in), among them al-Dahhak b. Muzahim and Jabir b. Zayd.

2751 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad b. 'Abd al-Rahman al-Dashtaki reported to us, 'Abd Allah b. Abi Ja'far reported to us, from his father, from al-Rabi' regarding His saying: "They shall have no power over anything of what they have earned on that Day," just as the rain left the smooth rock bare, with nothing upon it. It was also narrated from Qatadah similarly to the saying of al-Rabi'.

His saying, the Exalted: "And the likeness of those who spend their wealth seeking the pleasure of Allah."

2752 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Safwan reported to us, al-Walid reported to us, Bukayr b. Ma'ruf informed me, from Muqatil b. Hayyan regarding His saying: "And the likeness of those who spend their wealth seeking the pleasure of Allah," he said: In anticipation of the reward.

And the Second Aspect:

2753 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad b. 'Abd al-Rahman reported to us, 'Abd Allah b. Abi Ja'far reported to us, my father reported to us, from al-Rabi' b. Anas regarding His saying: "And the likeness of those who spend their wealth seeking the pleasure of Allah," he said: This is a parable Allah set forth for the deed of the believer.

And the Third Aspect:

2754 - Al-Hasan b. Ahmad narrated to us, Musa b. Muhallim reported to us, 'Abd al-Kabir b. 'Abd al-Majid reported to us, from 'Abbad b. Mansur, he said: I asked al-Hasan about His saying: "And the likeness of those who spend their wealth seeking the pleasure of Allah," he said: They spend seeking the pleasure of Allah, desiring neither reputation nor showing off.

His saying, the Exalted: "And strengthening themselves."

2755 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Abu Usamah reported to us, from Sufyan, from Abu Musa al-Asadi, from al-Sha'bi regarding: "And strengthening themselves," he said: Certainty from themselves.

2756 - Ahmad b. 'Isam narrated to us, Abu 'Asim reported to us, from Sufyan, from Abu Musa al-Asadi, from al-Sha'bi regarding: "And strengthening themselves," he said: Certainty and affirmation. It was also narrated from al-Suddi and Muqatil similarly.
