His saying, the Exalted: "The ignorant person thinks them wealthy because of [their] restraint."
2870 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr b. Hammad reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "The ignorant person thinks them wealthy because of their restraint."
2871 - al-Hasan b. Ahmad narrated to us, Musa b. Muhallim reported to us, Abu Bakr al-Hanafi reported to us, 'Abbad b. Mansur reported to us, from al-Hasan, and I asked him about His saying: "The ignorant person thinks them wealthy because of [their] restraint," and he said: Allah pointed the believers to them, provided their charities for them, commanded them to place their charities with them, and was pleased with them.
His saying, the Exalted: "You will know them by their mark."
[The First Aspect]
2872 - Hajjaj b. Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah reported to us, Warqa' reported to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "You will know them by their mark"—he said: Humility (al-takhashshu').
And the Second Aspect:
2873 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr b. Hammad reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "You will know them by their mark"—by the poverty that is upon them.
And the Third Aspect:
2874 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad b. 'Abd al-Rahman reported to us, 'Abd Allah b. Abi Ja'far reported to us, from his father, from al-Rabi', regarding His saying: "You will know them by their mark"—he says: You recognize in their faces the exhaustion from need.
His saying: "They do not ask people persistently."
2875 - Yunus b. 'Abd al-A'la informed us by way of reading, Ibn Wahb informed us, Ibn Abi Dhi'b informed me, from al-Walid, from Abu Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "The poor person is not the one who wanders about among you, whom you give a morsel or two; rather, the poor person is the self-restrained one who does not ask people persistently."
2876 - 'Ali b. al-Husayn b. Ishkab, the elder brother, narrated to us, Abu Zayd al-Jazari reported to us, that...
