His saying: "That is because they said, 'Trade is only like interest.'"

2891 - And by the same chain, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "That is because they said, 'Trade is only like interest,'" he said: It is the man whose wealth has become due upon his counterpart, so the one sought (the debtor) says to the seeker (the creditor): "Grant me an extension of the term, and I will increase your wealth." When that is done, it is said to them: "This is interest." They said: "It is the same for us whether we increase it at the beginning of the trade or at the time the wealth falls due; both are the same." Thus is His saying: "They said, 'Trade is only like interest,'" due to their saying: "If we add (to the principal) at the beginning of the trade or at the time the wealth falls due, they are both the same."

His saying, the Exalted: "But Allah has permitted trade and has forbidden interest."

2892 - And by the same chain, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, he said: So Allah, Blessed and Exalted, declared their saying false for their claim: "It is the same for us whether we increase it at the beginning of the trade or at the time the wealth falls due," so He said: "But Allah has permitted trade and has forbidden interest."

2893 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad b. 'Abd al-Rahman al-Dashtaki reported to us, 'Abd Allah b. Abi Ja'far reported to us, from his father, from al-Rabi' b. Anas, who said: Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, forbade interest with the severest of prohibitions, and it was preceded in it by: "Fear interest and suspicion." And he used to say: "Interest is one of the major sins."

His saying, the Exalted: "So whoever has received an admonition from his Lord."

2894 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr b. Hammad reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi: "So whoever has received an admonition from his Lord," as for the admonition, it is the Quran.

2895 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya b. 'Abd Allah b. Bukayr reported to us, 'Abd Allah b. Lahi'ah reported to me, 'Ata' b. Dinar reported to me, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "So whoever has received an admonition from his Lord," meaning: The clarification that is in the Quran regarding the prohibition of interest, so he desisted from it.

His saying: "So he desisted."

2896 - 'Ali b. al-Husayn narrated to us, Ibn Numayr reported to us, Waki' reported to us, Sufyan reported to us, regarding this verse, he said: "So he desisted," he said: He repented.

His saying: "Then for him is what has passed."

[The first interpretation]

2897 - It was read to Muhammad b. 'Abd Allah b. 'Abd al-Hakam, Ibn Wahb informed us, Jarir b. Hazim informed me, from Abu Ishaq al-Hamdani, from Umm Yunus, meaning his wife al-'Aliyah bint Ayfa', that 'Aishah, the wife of the Prophet (peace be upon him), was told by Umm Muhibbah, a concubine of Zayd b. Arqam: "O Mother of the Believers, do you know Zayd b. Arqam?" She said: "Yes." She said: "I sold him a slave for eight hundred (dirhams) to be paid at the time of the harvest. He needed the price, so I bought it from him before the term had expired for six hundred." She said: "Evil is what you purchased and evil is what you bought. Inform Zayd that he has voided his Jihad with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) if he does not repent." She said: So I said: "What if I relinquish the two hundred and take the six hundred?" She said: "Yes, 'So whoever has received an admonition from his Lord and desisted, then for him is what has passed.'"
