Jarir b. Hazim, from Abu Ishaq al-Hamdani, from Umm Yunus—meaning his wife, al-'Aliyah bint Ayfa'—that 'Aishah (1), the wife of the Prophet (peace be upon him), was told by Umm Muhibbah, a concubine of Zayd b. Arqam: "O Mother of the Believers, do you know Zayd b. Arqam?" She said: "Yes." She said: "I sold him a slave for eight hundred to be paid at the time of the harvest. He needed the price, so I bought it from him before the term had expired for six hundred." She said: "Evil is what you purchased and evil is what you bought. Inform Zayd that he has voided his Jihad with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) if he does not repent." She said: So I said: "What if I relinquish the two hundred and take the six hundred?" She said: "Yes, 'So whoever has received an admonition from his Lord and desisted, then for him is what has passed.'" (2)
And the second interpretation:
2898 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya b. 'Abd Allah b. Bukayr reported to us, 'Abd Allah b. Lahi'ah reported to me, 'Ata' b. Dinar reported to me, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "Then for him is what has passed," meaning: He is entitled to what he had consumed of interest before the prohibition. And similar to this was narrated from al-Suddi.
And the third interpretation:
2899 - My father narrated to us, 'Isa b. Ja'far reported to us, Sufyan reported to us, regarding His saying: "Then for him is what has passed," he said: "He is forgiven."
2900 - Muhammad b. Isma'il al-Ahmas narrated to us, he said: Waki' said, Sufyan said: We heard regarding His saying: "What has passed," he said: "He is forgiven."
His saying: "And his affair is to Allah"
2901 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya b. 'Abd Allah reported to us, Ibn Lahi'ah reported to us, 'Ata' reported to me, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, regarding His saying: "And his affair is to Allah," meaning: After the prohibition and after he desisted; if He wills, He will protect him, and if He wills, He will not.
His saying, the Exalted: "But whoever returns"
2902 - And by the same chain, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "But whoever returns," meaning: In (practicing) interest after the prohibition, and considers it lawful, due to their saying: 'Trade is only like interest.'

(2). Ibn Kathir said: This report is famous, and it is a proof for those who prohibit the issue of 'inah (a specific form of usurious sale), along with the hadiths that have come regarding it in the Book of Rulings (10/448).
