[His saying, the Exalted: "And do not follow the footsteps of Satan"]

Its interpretation has already preceded in four views. We did not record these two reports in that place, so we have recorded them here.

1951 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah b. Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali b. Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "The footsteps of Satan," he says: "His deeds."

1952 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr b. Hammad b. Talhah narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi: "And do not follow the footsteps of Satan," he says: "His obedience."

His saying: "Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy"

1953 - Muhammad b. Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas b. al-Walid informed us, Yazid b. Zuray' narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah, who said: Mutarrif said: "We found the most deceitful of Allah's servants to the servants of Allah to be Satan."

His saying: "Then if you slip"

1954 - Muhammad b. Sa'd al-'Awfi informed us in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my paternal uncle al-Husayn narrated to me, from his father, from his grandfather, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "Then if you slip after what has come to you of the clear proofs," and "the slip" (al-zalal): "abandoning Islam."

His saying: "After what has come to you of the clear proofs"

1955 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr b. Hammad b. Talhah narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi: "Then if you slip," he says: "If you go astray." And through the same chain from al-Suddi: "After what has come to you of the clear proofs," meaning: "After there has come to you Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him."

I read to Muhammad b. al-Fadl b. Musa, Muhammad b. 'Ali b. al-Hasan b. Shaqiq narrated to us, Muhammad b. Muzahim narrated to us, Bukayr b. Ma'ruf narrated to us, from Muqatil b. Hayyan, regarding His saying: "Then if you slip after what has come to you of the clear proofs," he means by the clear proofs: "That which Allah revealed of the lawful and the forbidden."

His saying: "Then know that Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise"

1956 - 'Isam b. Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, Abu Ja'far al-Razi narrated to us, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah: "Then know that Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise," he says: "Exalted in Might (Aziz) in His vengeance when He takes vengeance, Wise (Hakim) in His command." Something similar was narrated from Qatadah and al-Rabi' b. Anas.
