[His saying: "Until a time of ease"]
[The first view]
2938 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Yunus b. Bukayr reported to us, Muhammad b. Ishaq reported to us, someone I do not accuse informed me, from Aban b. 'Uthman and 'Umar b. 'Abd al-'Aziz, that they both said regarding His saying: "Then let there be postponement until a time of ease," they said: Let him grant him respite until Allah provides for him.
And the second view:
2939 - My father narrated to us, Muqatil b. Muhammad reported to us, Waki' reported to us, from Isra'il, from Jabir, from Abu Ja'far: "And if [the debtor] is in hardship, then let there be postponement until a time of ease," he said: [Until] death.
And the third view:
2940 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr b. Hammad reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi: "Until a time of ease," he says: Until [he attains] wealth.
His saying, the Exalted: "And that you remit [it] as charity is better for you, if you only knew"
2941 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Waki' reported to us, Sufyan said, from Mughirah, from Ibrahim: "And that you remit [it] as charity is better for you," he said: [By remitting] the principal. It was narrated from Qatadah, al-Suddi, al-Rabi', and Muqatil b. Hayyan similarly.
2942 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya b. 'Abd Allah reported to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' b. Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, regarding His saying: "And that you remit [it] as charity is better for you," meaning: Whoever gives as charity a debt he has against an insolvent person, it is greater in reward for him.
His saying, the Exalted: "...is better for you, if you only knew"
2943 - And with the same chain, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "And that you remit [it] as charity is better for you," meaning: It is greater in reward for him. Whoever does not give it as charity does not incur a sin, but whoever confines an insolvent person in prison is a sinner, because of His saying: "Then let there be postponement until a time of ease." Whoever possesses what he is able to pay his debt with and does not do so, he is recorded as a wrongdoer.
