His saying, Exalted is He: "And neither scribe nor witness should be harmed."
[The first aspect]
3022 - Usayd b. 'Asim narrated to us, al-Husayn b. Hafs reported to us, Sufyan reported to us, from Yazid b. Abi Ziyad, from Miqsam, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding this verse: "And neither scribe nor witness should be harmed," he said: A man comes to two men and calls upon them to write and bear witness. They say: "We are occupied with a need." He then says: "You have been commanded to respond." So, he may not harm them. It was narrated from Mujahid, 'Ikrimah, Tawus, Sa'id b. Jubayr, al-Dahhak, 'Atiyyah, al-Rabi' b. Anas, Muqatil b. Hayyan, and al-Suddi a similar [report].
[The second aspect]
3023 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Ibn 'Ulayyah reported to us, from Yunus, he said: al-Hasan said: "And neither scribe nor witness should be harmed" by concealing the testimony, or distorting it, or something similar to this.
[The third aspect]
3024 - al-Hasan b. Abi al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, from Ibn Jurayj, from 'Ata, regarding His saying: "And neither scribe nor witness should be harmed," he said: That they both should fulfill what is upon them.
[The fourth aspect]
3025 - My father narrated to us, Abu Yusuf Muhammad b. Ahmad b. Abi al-Hajjaj al-Raqqi reported to us, Fayyad b. Muhammad al-Raqqi reported to us, from 'Uthman b. 'Ata, from his father, he said: The Sultan (the judge) would not allow a man to insult a man, nor insult a witness; and that is because Allah, Exalted is He, said: "And neither scribe nor witness should be harmed."
[The fifth aspect]
3026 - al-Hasan b. Abi al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, from Ma'mar, from Qatadah: "And neither scribe nor witness should be harmed," he said: The scribe should not be harmed by writing what was not dictated to him, and the witness should not be harmed by testifying to what he was not asked to testify for. It was narrated from Zayd b. Aslam a similar [report].
