Then Allah sent down: "Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned." Thus, the earning [of deeds] was established, and this verse abrogated what preceded it.
3061 - My father narrated to us, Umayyah b. Bistam reported to us, Yazid b. Zuray' reported to us, from Rawh b. al-Qasim, from al-'Ala', and he mentioned with his chain of transmission something similar.
Abu Muhammad said: It is reported from 'Ali b. Abi Talib, Ibn 'Umar, Ibn 'Abbas (in one of the reports), Ka'b al-Ahbar, al-Sha'bi, al-Nakha'i, 'Ikrimah, Sa'id b. Jubayr, Muhammad b. Ka'b, and Qatadah, that it [the previous verse] is abrogated.
The second aspect:
That it is muhkam (firm/unabrogated):
3062 - My father narrated to us, Sulayman b. Harb reported to us, Hammad b. Salamah reported to us, from 'Ali b. Zayd, from Umayyah, who said: I asked 'A'ishah about this verse: "And whether you show what is within yourselves or conceal it, Allah will bring you to account for it." She said: No one has asked me about it since I asked the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) about it. She said: This is the covenant of Allah with the servant, and the fever or calamity that befalls him, or goods he places in his sleeve and then loses, so he becomes alarmed for them, then he finds them in his pocket, until the believer emerges from his sins just as pure gold emerges [from the furnace].
3063 - Sahl b. Bahr al-'Askari narrated to us, Ibn al-Asbahani reported to us, Ibn Yaman reported to us, from al-Bara' b. Sulayman al-Dabbi, who said: I heard Nafi', meaning the freed slave of 'Abdullah, mentioning from Ibn 'Umar that when he would pass by this verse: "And whether you show what is within yourselves or conceal it, Allah will bring you to account for it," he would say: This is nothing but a severe reckoning.
It is reported from al-Hasan, al-Dahhak, and al-Rabi' that it is muhkam.
3064 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih reported to us, Mu'awiyah b. Salih reported to me, from 'Ali b. Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding "Allah will bring you to account for it," he says: He will inform you.
The third aspect:
3065 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad b. 'Abd al-Rahman reported to us, 'Abdullah b. Abi Ja'far reported to us, from his father, from al-Rabi' regarding "Allah will bring you to account for it," [he said]: It is muhkam and has not been abrogated by anything, by His saying: He knows it.
