His saying: "And we obey"

3077 - Through the same chain from Muqatil b. Hayyan, regarding His saying: "And we obey"—they affirmed that they would obey Him in His command and His prohibition.

His saying, the Exalted: "[We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination"

3078 - 'Ali b. Harb al-Mawsili narrated to us, Ibn Fudayl reported to us, from 'Ata' b. al-Sa'ib, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding the saying of Allah the Exalted: "The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord" up to His saying: "[We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord," he said: He said: "I have forgiven you."

3079 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Safwan reported to us, al-Walid reported to us, Bukayr b. Ma'ruf reported to us, from Muqatil b. Hayyan, regarding the saying of Allah: "[We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination"—it is instruction from Allah. This is a supplication which the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) supplicated with, and it was answered for him.

His saying, the Exalted: "Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity"

3080 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih reported to us, Mu'awiyah b. Salih reported to us, from 'Ali b. Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity," he said: They are the believers. Allah expanded for them the matter of their religion, so Allah said: "[He] has not placed upon you in the religion any difficulty" (1), and He said: "Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship" (2), and He said: "So fear Allah as much as you are able" (3).

3081 - 'Ali b. al-Husayn narrated to us, Mihran reported to us, from Sufyan, regarding "Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity," he said: In the matter of expenditure, except what one is able.

3082 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad b. Kathir reported to us, Hammam informed us, he said: A man asked al-Hasan, and I was listening, and the man said: He placed something upon himself as a vow while he does not possess it. Al-Hasan said: "Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity."

His saying, the Exalted: "except [with that within] its capacity"

[The First Aspect]

3083 - My father narrated to us, Mahmud b. Ghaylan reported to us, 'Abdan b. 'Uthman b. Jabalah reported to us, 'Abbad b. al-'Awwam reported to us, from Isma'il b. Abi Khalid, from 'Amir al-Sha'bi, regarding: "Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity," except what it has worked for itself.
