3097 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab reported to us, Bishr b. 'Umarah reported to us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "And lay not upon us a burden," he said: A covenant.
It was narrated from Mujahid and al-Suddi similarly.
It was narrated from al-Hasan, al-Dahhak, and Muqatil b. Hayyan that they said: A treaty.
The Second Aspect:
3098 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad b. 'Abd al-Rahman reported to us, 'Abd Allah b. Abi Ja'far reported to us, from his father, from al-Rabi', regarding His saying: "And lay not upon us a burden as You laid it upon those before us," he says: The severity which I imposed upon those before you from among the People of the Book.
His saying, Exalted is He: "As You laid it upon those before us"
3099 - al-Hasan b. Muhammad al-Sabbah narrated to us, 'Affan reported to us, 'Abd al-Rahman b. Ibrahim reported to us, al-'Ala' b. 'Abd al-Rahman reported to us, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, regarding "And lay not upon us a burden as You laid it upon those before us," he said: Yes.
3100 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Ibn Fudayl reported to us, from Ash'ath, from Ibn Sirin, he said: Abu Hurayrah said to Ibn 'Abbas: Is there any embarrassment upon us if we commit adultery or theft? He said: No, but the burden that was upon the Children of Israel has been removed from you.
3101 - My father narrated to us, Abu Musa 'Imran b. Musa al-Tarsusi reported to us, Abu Yazid Fayd b. Ishaq al-Raqqi reported to us, he said: al-Fudayl said regarding His saying: "And lay not upon us a burden as You laid it upon those before us": A man from the Children of Israel, when he committed a sin, it would be said to him: Your repentance is that you kill yourself, so he would kill himself. Thus, these burdens were removed from this nation.
3102 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Safwan b. Salih reported to us, al-Walid reported to us, Bukayr b. Ma'ruf reported to us, from Muqatil b. Hayyan, regarding His saying: "As You laid it upon those before us," [meaning:] as You laid it upon the Jews and the Christians and destroyed them (1).
His saying, Exalted is He: "Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear"
[The First Aspect]
3103 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad b. al-Minhal reported to us, Yazid b. Zuray' reported to us, from Rawh b. al-Qasim, from al-'Ala', from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, regarding "And burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear," he said: Yes.
Ibn 'Abbas, al-Dahhak, Muhammad b. Ka'b, and al-Suddi narrated, saying: Allah, Mighty and Majestic is He, says: I have done so. Sa'id b. Jubayr said: I will not burden you with it.
