His saying, the Exalted: "And Allah is severe in punishment"

3232 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad b. 'Abdah reported to us, Hammad b. Zayd reported to us, from 'Ali b. Zayd who said: Mutarrif recited this verse: "severe in punishment," and said: If people knew the extent of Allah's punishment, Allah's vengeance, Allah's severity, and Allah's retribution, no tear would cease to fall from them, and their eyes would find no rest in anything.

His saying, the Exalted: "Say to those who disbelieve: You will be overcome and gathered to Hell, and wretched is the resting place"

3233 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad b. al-Miqdam Abu al-Ash'ath reported to us, Muhammad b. Bakr al-Bursani reported to us, Sulaym b. Nufay' al-Qurashi reported to us, from Khalaf Abu al-Fadl al-Qurashi, from the book of 'Umar b. 'Abd al-'Aziz who said: The saying of Allah: "Say to those who disbelieve: You will be overcome and gathered to Hell, and wretched is the resting place," He informed them of their punishment by killing in this world and by the Fire in the Hereafter, while they were [still] alive in Makkah.

3234 - Muhammad b. Yahya narrated to us, Abu Ghassan reported to us, Salama reported to us who said: Muhammad b. Ishaq said: 'Asim b. 'Umar b. Qatadah narrated to me, saying: When Allah defeated the Quraysh on the Day of Badr, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) gathered the Jews in the market of Banu Qaynuqa'. Then he came to the city and said: "O assembly of Jews, embrace Islam before Allah strikes you with the like of what He struck the Quraysh with." They said to him: "O Muhammad, do not let your arrogance deceive you just because you killed a group of Quraysh who were [only] people who did not know how to fight. By Allah, if you were to fight us, you would know that we are the real people, and that you have not encountered the likes of us." So Allah the Almighty and Majestic sent down concerning that saying of theirs: "Say to those who disbelieve: You will be overcome and gathered to Hell, and wretched is the resting place," up to His saying: "is a lesson for those who have vision."

His saying, the Exalted: "And wretched is the resting place"

3235 - Hajjaj b. Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah reported to us, Warqa' reported to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid (1) regarding His saying: "And wretched is the resting place," he said: And wretched is what they have prepared for themselves.

His saying, the Exalted: "There has already been for you a sign"

3236 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad b. 'Abd al-Rahman reported to us, 'Abd Allah b. Abi Ja'far reported to us, from his father, from al-Rabi' b. Anas: "There has already been for you a sign," he says: There has already been for you in those [events] a lesson and something to contemplate, [as] Allah aided them and granted them victory over their enemy, and that was on the Day of Badr.
