His saying, the Exalted: "They see them as twice their own number with the eye."
3243 - al-Hasan b. Abi al-Rabi' narrated to us, 'Abd al-Razzaq (1) informed us, Ma'mar informed us, from Qatadah regarding "They see them as twice their own number with the eye," he said: They were doubled in their sight, so they killed seventy of them and took seventy captive on the Day of Badr.
3244 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr b. Hammad reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "They see them as twice their own number with the eye," he said: This is on the Day of Badr.
'Abd Allah b. Mas'ud said: We looked at the polytheists and we saw them as doubled over us; then we looked at them, and we did not see them exceeding us by a single man. That is His saying: "And when He showed them to you, when you met, as few in your eyes, and He made you look few in their eyes" (2).
His saying, the Exalted: "And Allah supports with His victory whom He wills."
3245 - Muhammad b. Sa'd al-'Awfi informed us in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my uncle al-Husayn reported to me, my father narrated to me, from my grandfather, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "And Allah supports with His victory whom He wills," so Allah supported the believers with His victory. He said: This was to alleviate [the burden] upon the believers.
His saying, the Exalted: "Indeed in that is a lesson for those of vision."
3246 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad b. 'Abd al-Rahman reported to us, 'Abd Allah b. Abi Ja'far reported to us, from his father, from al-Rabi' regarding His saying: "Indeed in that is a lesson for those of vision," he says: There was indeed a lesson and a matter for contemplation in these [events].
His saying, the Exalted: "Beautified for people is the love of desires: of women and sons."
[The First Aspect]
3247 - My father narrated to us, 'Amr b. Rafi' reported to us, Jarir reported to us, from 'Ata' b. al-Sa'ib, from Abu Bakr b. Hafs who said: When "Beautified for people is the love of desires" through the end of the verse was revealed, 'Umar said: Now, O Lord, now that You have beautified them for us. So it was revealed: "Say: Shall I inform you of better than that? For those who fear Allah will be gardens in the presence of their Lord," [covering] the entire verse.
3248 - My father narrated to us, Ibrahim b. al-Walid b. Salamah al-Tabarani and 'Ali b. Hashim,
