1993 - 'Isam b. Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, Abu Ja'far narrated to us, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah, from Ubayy b. Ka'b, regarding: "And Allah guided those who believed to that truth wherein they differed," he says: "Allah guided them at the time of the disagreement, as they remained upon what the messengers had brought before the disagreement. They remained upon sincerity to Allah alone and His worship, with no partner unto Him, the establishment of prayer, and the giving of zakah. They remained upon the original command that was before the disagreement, and they distanced themselves from the disagreement. Thus, they were witnesses over the people on the Day of Resurrection. They were witnesses over the people of Nuh, the people of Hud, the people of Salih, the people of Shu'ayb, and the people of Pharaoh, that their messengers had indeed conveyed the message to them and that they had denied their messengers."
His saying: "To that truth wherein they differed by His permission"
1994 - Yunus b. 'Abd al-A'la informed us by way of reading, Ibn Wahb informed us, 'Abd al-Rahman b. Zayd b. Aslam informed me, from his father, regarding the saying of Allah: "And Allah guided those who believed to that truth wherein they differed by His permission." He said: "They differed regarding the day of Friday; so the Jews adopted the day of Saturday, and the Christians [adopted] the day of Sunday. Allah guided the Ummah of Muhammad to the day of Friday. They differed regarding the qiblah; so the Christians faced the East and the Jews [faced] Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem), and Allah guided the Ummah of Muhammad to the [correct] qiblah. They differed regarding the prayer; some of them would bow without prostrating, some of them would prostrate without bowing, some of them would pray while speaking, and some of them would pray while walking; so Allah guided the Ummah of Muhammad to the truth in that. They differed regarding the fasting; some of them would fast the day, and some of them would fast from certain types of food; so Allah guided the Ummah of Muhammad to the truth in that. They differed regarding Ibrahim; the Jews said: 'He was a Jew,' and the Christians said: 'He was a Christian,' but Allah made him a hanif (upright in monotheism) and a Muslim; so Allah guided the Ummah of Muhammad to the truth in that. They differed regarding 'Isa (Jesus); the Jews denied him and said a great calumny against his mother, and the Christians made him a god and a son, but Allah made him His spirit and His word; so Allah guided the Ummah of Muhammad to the truth in that."
His saying, Exalted is He: "And Allah guides whom He wills to a straight path"
1995 - 'Isam b. Rawwad narrated to us, Adam narrated to us, Abu Ja'far narrated to us, from al-Rabi', from Abu al-'Aliyah, regarding the saying of Allah, Exalted is He: "And Allah guides whom He wills to a straight path," he says: "He guides them to exit from doubts, misguidance, and tribulations."
١٩٩٣ - حَدَّثَنَا عِصَامُ بْنُ رَوَّادٍ، ثنا آدَمُ، ثنا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ، عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ: فَهَدَى اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لِمَا اخْتَلَفُوا فِيهِ يَقُولُ: فَهَدَاهُمُ اللَّهُ عِنْدَ الاخْتِلافِ، أَنَّهُمْ أَقَامُوا عَلَى مَا جَاءَتْ بِهِ الرُّسُلُ قَبْلَ الاخْتِلافِ. أَقَامُوا عَلَى الإِخْلاصُ لِلَّهِ وَحْدَهُ وَعِبَادَتُهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَإِقَامِ الصَّلاةِ وَإِيتَاءِ الزَّكَاةِ، وَأَقَامُوا عَلَى الأَمْرِ الأَوَّلِ الَّذِي كَانَ قَبْلَ الاخْتِلافِ، وَاعْتَزَلُوا الاخْتِلافَ، فَكَانُوا شُهَدَاءَ عَلَى النَّاسِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ. كَانُوا شُهَدَاءَ عَلَى قَوْمِ نُوحٍ وَقَوْمِ هُودٍ وَقَوْمِ صَالِحٍ، وَقَوْمِ شُعَيْبٍ، وَآلِ فِرْعَوْنَ، أَنَّ رُسُلَهُمْ قَدْ بَلَّغَتْهُمْ وَأَنَّهُمْ كَذَّبُوا رُسُلَهُمْ.
قَوْلُهُ: لِمَا اخْتَلَفُوا فِيهِ مِنَ الْحَقِّ بِإِذْنِهِ
١٩٩٤ - أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى قِرَاءَةً، أَنْبَأَ ابْنُ وهب، أخبرني عبد الرحمن ابن زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ: فَهَدَى اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لِمَا اخْتَلَفُوا فِيهِ مِنَ الْحَقِّ بِإِذْنِهِ فَاخْتَلَفُوا فِي يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ، فَاتَّخَذَ الْيَهُودُ يَوْمَ السَّبْتِ وَالنَّصَارَى يَوْمَ الأَحَدِ، فَهَدَى اللَّهُ أُمَّةَ مُحَمَّدٍ لِيَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ وَاخْتَلَفُوا فِي الْقِبْلَةِ، فَاسْتَقْبَلْتِ النَّصَارَى الشَّرْقَ وَالْيَهُودُ بَيْتَ الْمَقْدِسِ، وَهَدَى اللَّهُ أُمَّةَ مُحَمَّدٍ لِلْقِبْلَةِ وَاخْتَلَفُوا فِي الصَّلاةِ، فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَرْكَعُ وَلا يَسْجُدُ، وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَسْجُدُ وَلا يَرْكَعُ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يُصَلِّي وَهُوَ يَتَكَلَّمُ، وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يُصَلِّي وَهُوَ يَمْشِي، فَهَدَى اللَّهُ أُمَّةَ مُحَمَّدٍ لِلْحَقِّ مِنْ ذَلِكَ، وَاخْتَلَفُوا فِي الصِّيَامِ فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَصُومُ النَّهَارَ، وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يصوم من بَعْضِ الطَّعَامِ، فَهَدَى اللَّهُ أُمَّةَ مُحَمَّدٍ لِلْحَقِّ مِنْ ذَلِكَ، وَاخْتَلَفُوا فِي إِبْرَاهِيمَ، فَقَالَتِ الْيَهُودُ: كَانَ يَهُودِيًّا، وَقَالَتِ النَّصَارَى: كَانَ نَصْرَانِيًّا، وَجَعَلَهُ اللَّهُ حَنِيفًا مُسْلِمًا، فَهَدَى اللَّهُ أُمَّةَ مُحَمَّدٍ، لِلْحَقِّ مِنْ ذَلِكَ. وَاخْتَلَفُوا فِي عِيسَى، فَكَذَّبَتِ بِهِ الْيَهُودُ وَقَالُوا لأُمِّهِ بُهْتَانًا عَظِيمًا، وَجَعَلَتْهُ النَّصَارَى إِلَهًا وَوَلَدًا، وَجَعَلَهُ اللَّهُ رُوحَهُ وَكَلِمَتَهُ، فَهَدَى اللَّهُ أُمَّةَ مُحَمَّدٍ لِلْحَقِّ مِنْ ذَلِكَ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَاللَّهُ يَهْدِي مَنْ يَشَاءُ إِلَى صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ
١٩٩٥ - حَدَّثَنَا عِصَامُ بْنُ رَوَّادٍ، ثنا آدَمُ، ثنا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ، عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى وَاللَّهُ يَهْدِي مَنْ يَشَاءُ إِلَى صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ يَقُولُ: يَهْدِيهِمْ لِلْخُرُوجِ مِنَ الشُّبُهَاتِ وَالضَّلالاتِ وَالْفِتَنِ.
