3337 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad b. 'Abd al-Rahman al-Sa'di reported to us, 'Abd Allah b. Abi Ja'far reported to us, from his father, from al-Rabi' b. Anas, regarding His saying: "Then give them tidings of a painful punishment," he said: "Al-alim" means the painful. Abu Muhammad said: Something similar has been narrated from Abu Malik.
His saying, the Exalted: "Those are the ones whose deeds have become worthless [habit]"
3338 - Abu Bakr b. Abi Musa narrated to us, Harun b. Hatim reported to us, 'Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Hammad reported to us, from Asbat, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik regarding His saying: "Habitat [have become worthless] their deeds," meaning: their deeds have become void.
His saying, the Exalted: "Have you not seen those who were given a portion of the Scripture"
3339 - Abu Bakr b. Abi Musa narrated to us, Harun b. Hatim reported to us, 'Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Hammad reported to us, from Asbat, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik regarding His saying: "A portion [nasiban]," meaning: a share. And regarding the same verse in His saying: "of the Scripture," meaning: of the Torah.
3340 - Muhammad b. Yahya narrated to us, Muhammad b. 'Amr Zunayj informed us, Salama reported to us, he said: Muhammad b. Ishaq said: Muhammad b. Abi Muhammad narrated to me, from 'Ikrimah, he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) entered the Bayt al-Madaris upon a group of Jews and invited them to Allah. Al-Nu'man b. 'Amr and al-Harith b. Zayd said: "Upon what religion are you, O Muhammad?" He replied: "Upon the creed of Abraham and his religion." They both said: "But Abraham was a Jew." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to them: "Then come to the Torah, for it is between us and you." They refused him, so Allah the Exalted sent down: "Have you not seen those who were given a portion of the Scripture, invited to the Book of Allah to judge between them" up to His saying: "And they were deluded in their religion by what they used to invent."
His saying, the Exalted: "Then a party of them turned away and they are refusing"
3341 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya b. 'Abd Allah reported to us, 'Abd Allah b. Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' b. Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id b. Jubayr regarding His saying: "A party [fariq]", meaning: a group.
3342 - Muhammad b. Yahya informed me, al-'Abbas b. al-Walid informed us, Yazid b. Zuray', reported to us, Sa'id reported to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "Refusing [mu'ridun]," he said: Refusing the Book of Allah.
