b. Abi Ja'far al-Razi, from his father, from Qatadah: They are the Jews who were invited to the Book of Allah and to His Prophet while they found him described among them; then they turned away and they are refusing.
His saying, the Exalted: "That is because they said, 'Never will the Fire touch us, except for a numbered number of days.'"
This has already been discussed in its interpretation in Surat al-Baqarah, Verse 81 [3344].
My father narrated to me, 'Ubayd Allah b. Hamzah informed me, he said: I heard my father, Abu Sinan reported to us, from Thabit b. Jaban, from al-Dahhak, he said: The people of the Fire shall fall into the Fire for forty days, then it will be said to them: "You have reached the limit while you are in eternity," and it is the forty which they referred to by saying: "Never will the Fire touch us, except for a numbered number of days."
3345 - My father narrated to us, 'Isa b. Ja'far reported to us, Muslim b. Khalid reported to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "Never will the Fire touch us, except for a numbered number of days," he said: They mean the days in which Adam was created.
His saying, the Exalted: "And deluded them in their religion"
[The First Aspect]
3346 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad b. 'Abd al-Rahman reported to us, 'Abd Allah b. Abi Ja'far reported to us, from his father, from al-Rabi', regarding His saying: "And deluded them in their religion what they used to invent," when they said: "We are the children of Allah and His beloved ones." Abu Muhammad said: Something similar has been narrated from Qatadah.
[The Second Aspect]
3347 - Al-Hasan b. Muhammad b. al-Sabah mentioned it, Hajjaj reported to us, from Ibn Jurayj, Khalid b. al-Harith informed me that he heard Mujahid saying: "And deluded them in their religion what they used to invent," their saying deluded them: "Never will the Fire touch us, except for a numbered number of days."
His saying, the Exalted: "So how will it be when We assemble them for a Day about which there is no doubt, and every soul will be compensated [in full] for what it earned, and they will not be wronged?"
3348 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya b. 'Abd Allah reported to us, Ibn Lahi'ah reported to us, 'Ata' b. Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id b. Jubayr regarding the saying of Allah: "And will be compensated [wuffiyat] every soul," meaning: will be paid in full.
