3419 - My father narrated to us, al-Hasan b. al-Rabi' reported to us, Ibn Idris reported to us, Muhammad b. Ishaq reported on the verse: "[Descendants] some of them from others. And Allah is Hearing, Knowing," saying: From that lineage, Jesus was attributed, as he had no father other than them, so he was called to his lineage.
3420 - Muhammad b. al-'Abbas narrated to us, Zunayj reported to us, Salamah reported to us, Ibn Ishaq reported regarding "And Allah is Hearing, Knowing," meaning: Hearing of what they say. And with it, His saying: "Knowing," meaning: Knowing of what they conceal.
His saying, the Exalted: "When the wife of 'Imran said, 'My Lord, indeed I have vowed to You..." up to His saying: "...the Knowing."
[The First Aspect]
3421 - Al-Husayn b. al-Sakan al-Basri narrated to us, Abu Zayd al-Nahwi reported to us, Qays reported to us, from Ibn Abi Layla, from al-Minhal, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding the saying of Allah the Exalted: "'Indeed, I have vowed to You what is in my womb, consecrated,'" he said: She had vowed to place him in the temple to worship therein.
3422 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Waki' reported to us, from Sufyan, from Khusayf, from Mujahid, regarding "vowed to You what is in my womb, consecrated," he said: For worship; nothing of the affairs of the world mixes with it. Abu Muhammad said: It was reported from 'Amir al-Sha'bi, Sa'id b. Jubayr, 'Ikrimah, al-Dahhak, Qatadah, and al-Suddi similar to that.
And the Second Aspect:
3423 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Abu Salamah (Abu Usamah) and Waki' reported to us, from al-Nadr b. 'Arabiy, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "'Indeed, I have vowed to You what is in my womb, consecrated,'" he said: A servant for the temple. Abu Muhammad said: It was reported from al-Rabi' b. Anas and Sharhabil b. Sa'd similar to that.
His saying, the Exalted: "But when she delivered her."
3424 - Ahmad b. Muhammad b. Aslam al-Razi mentioned it to us, Ishaq b. Rahawayh reported to us, Jarir reported to us, from 'Ata' b. al-Sa'ib, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas: "But when she delivered her," she was a female, she lamented over it, and said: "My Lord, indeed I have delivered a female."
