Abi Bazzah informed me, that 'Ikrimah said: "But when she delivered her, she said, 'My Lord, indeed I have delivered a female,'" she said: There is no one in the temple except the man, so it is not appropriate for a woman to be with the men. Her mother was saying that; so that was what prevented her from placing her in the temple and fulfilling her vow of consecrating her in the temple.
His saying, the Exalted: "And Allah is most knowing of what she delivered."

His saying, the Exalted: "And the male is not like the female. And I have named her Maryam."
3431 - 'Ali b. al-Husayn narrated to us, Musa b. Harun reported to us, Marwan reported to us, from Juwaybir, from al-Dahhak, "And the male is not like the female," meaning: because she had made her a vowed servant to Him, and the vowed servant is to worship Allah, because the male is stronger for that than the female.
