3526 - It was read to Yunus b. 'Abd al-A'la, Ibn Wahb reported to us, Ibn Lahi'ah informed me, from Yazid b. Abi Habib, that the saying of Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, "And he will speak to the people in the cradle and in manhood," he said: The kahl (man of maturity) is the end of the age of puberty (bulugh).

3527 - Muhammad b. Yahya narrated to us, Abu Ghassan reported to us, Salamah reported to us, Muhammad b. Ishaq said regarding "And he will speak to the people in the cradle and in manhood and among the righteous," he is informing them of the states through which he passes during his life, like the transition of the sons of Adam in their ages, whether young or old, because Allah, the Exalted is His Majesty, distinguished him with speech in his cradle as a sign of his prophethood and as an illustration to the servants of the stations of His power.

His saying, the Exalted: "She said, 'My Lord, how will I have a child when no man has touched me?'"

3528 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, 'Amr b. Hammad reported to us, Asbat reported to us, from al-Suddi, "How will I have a child," she says: From where will I have one?

3529 - Muhammad b. Yahya narrated to us, Abu Ghassan reported to us, Salamah reported to us, Muhammad b. Ishaq reported to us regarding "She said, 'My Lord, how will I have a child when no man has touched me?'" He said: "Thus Allah creates what He wills," meaning: He places what He intends and creates what He wills from human or other than human.

His saying, the Exalted: "When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, 'Be,' and it is."

3530 - And with the same chain, from Salamah, Muhammad b. Ishaq said: "When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, 'Be,' and it is," from what He wills and however He wills, so it is as He intended.

His saying, the Exalted: "And He will teach him the Scripture and the Wisdom."

[The first interpretation]

3531 - 'Ali b. al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad b. al-'Ala' reported to us, Yunus b. Bukayr reported to us, from Matar b. Maymun, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas: "The Scripture," [means] writing with the pen.

Abu Muhammad said: The like of this has been narrated from Yahya b. Abi Kathir, Muqatil b. Hayyan, and 'Uthman b. 'Ata'.

And the second interpretation:

3532 - al-Hasan b. Muhammad b. al-Sabbah narrated to us, Asbat b. Muhammad reported to us, from al-Hudhali, from al-Hasan, regarding the saying of Allah the Exalted: "The Scripture," he said: The Scripture is the Qur'an.
