3564 - 'Ali b. al-Mubarak informed me in what he wrote to me, Zayd b. al-Mubarak reported to us, Ibn Thawr reported to us, from Ibn Jurayj regarding His saying: "But when 'Isa felt disbelief from them," he said: They disbelieved and desired to kill him. This was when he sought support from his people, and this is the time he says: "A faction of the Children of Israel believed and a faction disbelieved."
3565 - Hajjaj b. Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah reported to us, Warqa' reported to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding "Who are my helpers in the cause of Allah?" he said: Who will follow me toward Allah?
3566 - 'Amr b. Thawr informed me in what he wrote to me, al-Firyabi reported to us, [who] said: Sufyan said regarding His saying: "Who are my helpers in the cause of Allah?" He said: Who are my helpers along with Allah?
3567 - al-Hasan b. Ahmad narrated to us, Musa b. Muhkam reported to us, Abu Bakr al-Hanafi reported to us, 'Abbad b. Mansur reported to us, from al-Hasan, regarding His saying: "Who are my helpers in the cause of Allah?" He said: He sought their help, so the Hawariyyun (Disciples) helped him, and he prevailed over them.
His saying, the Exalted: "The Hawariyyun (Disciples)."
[The First Aspect]
3568 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Waki' reported to us, from Sufyan, from Maysarah al-Nahdi, from al-Minhal b. 'Amr, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: They were only called the Hawariyyun, he said: They were fishermen because of the whiteness of their clothes. Abu Muhammad said: Something similar to this was narrated from Muslim al-Batin.
And the second aspect:
3569 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, al-Walid b. al-Qasim reported to us, from Juwaybir, from al-Dahhak, regarding His saying: "Who are my helpers in the cause of Allah?" The Hawariyyun said: We are the helpers of Allah. He said: 'Isa passed by a group of laundrymen and invited them to Allah, so they answered him; for that reason he named them the Hawariyyun. He said: In Nabatian, it is "Hawari," and in Arabic, "al-Mahwar."
The third aspect:
3570 - My father narrated to us, Ibn al-Tabba' reported to us, Isma'il b. 'Ulayyah reported to us, from Rawh b. al-Qasim, from Qatadah, who said: The Hawariyyun are those to whom the caliphate is appropriate.
