you testify that the description of the Prophet of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, is in your Book, then you disbelieve in him and do not believe in him while you find him written with you in the Torah and the Gospel: the Unlettered Prophet. Abu Muhammad said: It was narrated from Qatadah something similar to this.
3670 - I read to Muhammad, he said: Bukayr b. Ma'ruf narrated to us, from Muqatil b. Hayyan, regarding His saying: "Why do you disbelieve in the verses of Allah and you bear witness" that the Quran is the truth and that Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, is the Messenger of Allah, [and] they find him written with them in the Torah and the Gospel.
And the Second Aspect:
3671 - Al-Hasan b. Ahmad narrated to us, Musa b. Muhkam narrated to us, Abu Bakr al-Hanafi narrated to us, 'Abbad b. Mansur narrated to us, he said: I asked al-Hasan about His saying: "Why do you disbelieve in the verses of Allah and you bear witness?" He said: You know and you deny, and you know that it is the truth.
3672 - 'Ali b. al-Mubarak reported to us in what he wrote to me, Zayd b. al-Mubarak narrated to us, Ibn Thawr narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj, regarding His saying: "Why do you disbelieve in the verses of Allah and you bear witness" that the religion of Islam is the religion of Allah, [and] there is no religion for Allah other than it.
His saying, the Exalted: "Why do you confuse the truth"
3673 - I read to Muhammad b. al-Mufaddal, Muhammad b. 'Ali narrated to us, Muhammad b. Muzahim narrated to us, Bukayr b. Ma'ruf narrated to us, from Muqatil b. Hayyan, regarding "Why do you confuse the truth with falsehood" he says: Why do you mix [them].
3674 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad b. 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, 'Abd Allah b. Abi Ja'far narrated to us, from his father, from al-Rabi' b. Anas, regarding "Why do you confuse the truth with falsehood" he says: Why do you mix Judaism and Christianity with Islam, while you have known that the religion of Allah is not accepted from anyone except Islam. Abu Muhammad said: It was narrated from Qatadah and Muqatil b. Hayyan something similar to this.
3675 - Muhammad b. al-'Abbas, the freed slave of the Banu Hashim, narrated to us, Abu Ghassan narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad b. Ishaq, and Muhammad b. Abi Muhammad said: And 'Abd Allah b. al-Sayf and 'Adi b.
(1). There is a missing portion in the chain of transmission here, and Allah knows best. (2). Perhaps this chain of transmission is the chain for the aforementioned saying of the Exalted: "And you bear witness" in which it is mentioned: I read to Muhammad, Bukayr b. Ma'ruf narrated to us.
تَشْهَدُونَ أَنَّ نَعْتَ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي كِتَابِكُمْ، ثُمَّ تَكْفُرُونَ بِهِ وَلا تُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِ وَأَنْتُمْ تَجِدُونَهُ عِنْدَكُمْ فِي التَّوْرَاةِ وَالإِنْجِيلِ: النَّبِيَّ الأُمِّيَّ. قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ:
وَرُوِيَ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ نَحْوُ ذَلِكَ.
٣٦٧٠ - قَرَأْتُ عَلَى محمد «١» ثنا، ثنا بُكَيْرُ بْنُ مَعْرُوفٍ، عَنْ مُقَاتِلِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ قَوْلُهُ: لِمَ تَكْفُرُونَ بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ وَأَنْتُمْ تَشْهَدُونَ أَنَّ الْقُرْآنَ حَقٌّ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يَجِدُونَهُ مَكْتُوبًا عِنْدَهُمْ فِي التَّوْرَاةِ وَالإِنْجِيلِ.
وَالْوَجْهُ الثَّانِي:
٣٦٧١ - حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ مُحْكَمٍ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْحَنَفِيُّ، ثنا عَبَّادُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ الْحَسَنَ عَنْ قَوْلِهِ: لِمَ تَكْفُرُونَ بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ وَأَنْتُمْ تَشْهَدُونَ قَالَ: تَعْرِفُونَ وَتَجْحَدُونَ وَتَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّهُ الْحَقُّ.
٣٦٧٢ - أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ، ثنا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، ثنا ابْنُ ثَوْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: لِمَ تَكْفُرُونَ بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ وَأَنْتُمْ تَشْهَدُونَ عَلَى أَنَّ الدِّينَ الإِسْلامَ لَيْسَ لِلَّهِ دَيْنٌ غيره.
قَولُهُ تَعَالَى: لِمَ تَلْبِسُونَ الْحَقَّ
٣٦٧٣ - قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُفَضَّلِ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ «٢» بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُزَاحِمٍ، ثنا بُكَيْرُ بْنُ مَعْرُوفٍ عَنْ مُقَاتِلِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ لِمَ تَلْبِسُونَ الْحَقَّ بِالْبَاطِلِ يَقُولُ: لِمَ تَخْلِطُونَ.
٣٦٧٤ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ لِمَ تَلْبِسُونَ الْحَقَّ بِالْبَاطِلِ يَقُولُ لِمَ تَلْبِسُونَ الْيَهُودِيَّةَ وَالنَّصْرَانِيَّةَ بِالإِسْلامِ وَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمْ أَنَّ دِينَ اللَّهِ لَا يُقْبَلُ مِنْ أَحَدٍ غَيْرُ الإِسْلامِ. قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ: وَرُوِيَ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ وَمُقَاتِلِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ نَحْوُ ذَلِكَ.
٣٦٧٥ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَبَّاسِ مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ، ثنا أَبُو غَسَّانَ، ثنا سَلَمَةُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، وَقَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي مُحَمَّدٍ: وقال عبد الله ابن الصيف وعدى بن
