3686 - Muhammad b. Sa'd al-'Awfi reported to me in what he wrote to me: My father narrated to me, my uncle al-Husayn narrated to me, my father narrated to me, from my grandfather, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "And disbelieve at the end of it," he said: That is because a faction of the Jews said: "When you meet the companions of Muhammad at the beginning of the day, then believe; and when it is the end of it, then perform your prayer, so that perhaps they will say: 'These are the People of the Scripture and they are more knowledgeable than us.'"

3687 - Abu Bakr b. Abi Musa narrated to us, Harun b. Hatim narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Hammad narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik regarding His saying: "Perhaps they," meaning: so that.

3688 - 'Ali b. Harb narrated to us, Abu Dawud narrated to us, from Sufyan, from al-Suddi, from Abu al-Duha, from Masruq, from 'Abd Allah regarding: "Perhaps they return," he said: Perhaps they will repent.

Abu Muhammad said: It was narrated from Qatadah that he said: "Perhaps they will abandon their religion."
And al-Suddi said: "Perhaps they will doubt."
3690 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, 'Ubayd Allah narrated to us, from Isra'il, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik regarding: "Perhaps they return," he said: Perhaps the Muslims will return to your religion and disbelieve in Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
It was narrated from al-Rabi' b. Anas that he said: "Perhaps they return from their religion to that which you are upon."
His saying, the Exalted: "And do not trust except for those who follow your religion"
3691 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, 'Ubayd Allah b. Musa narrated to us, from Isra'il, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik, who said: The rabbis of the Jews used to say to those who were subordinate to them: "Do not trust except for those who follow your religion." So Allah, the Exalted, revealed: "Say, 'Indeed, the guidance is the guidance of Allah'"
