2092 - Hajjaj b. Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid: "And if Allah had willed, He could have put you in difficulty," [he said]: He forbade upon you grazing and meat.
2093 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad b. 'Abd al-Rahman al-Dashtaki narrated to us, 'Abd Allah b. Abi Ja'far narrated to us, from his father, from al-Rabi' b. Anas: "And if Allah had willed, He could have put you in difficulty," he says: He would have exhausted you such that you would not have upheld a right nor performed a mandatory duty.
2094 - 'Abd Allah b. Sulayman b. al-Ash'ath narrated to us, Hamu b. Nuh al-Balkhi narrated to us, Abu Mu'adh—meaning: Khalid b. Sulayman—narrated to us, Abu Muslih narrated to us, from al-Dahhak, regarding His saying: "And if Allah had willed, He could have put you in difficulty," he said: If He had not clarified [matters] for you, you would have sinned.
His saying: "And do not marry polytheistic women until they believe."
[The First View]
2095 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah b. Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali b. Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas: "And do not marry polytheistic women until they believe," then He made an exception for the women of the People of the Scripture, and said: "And [lawful in marriage are] chaste women from among those who were given the Scripture before you, when you have given them their due compensation, desiring chastity, not unlawful sexual intercourse." Abu Muhammad said: It is narrated from 'Ikrimah, Sa'id b. Jubayr, al-Hasan, Makhul, al-Dahhak, al-Rabi' b. Anas, and Zayd b. Aslam, similar to that.
The Second View:
2096 - Muhammad b. Isma'il al-Ahmas narrated to us, Waki' narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Hammad, from Sa'id b. Jubayr, regarding His saying: "And do not marry polytheistic women until they believe," he said: The idolaters.
2097 - My father narrated to us, Abu Ziyad narrated to us, Ibn Mahdi narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Hammad, the same, except that he said: The idolaters: the Magians.
The Third View:
2098 - Hajjaj b. Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "And do not marry polytheistic women until they believe," from the women of the polytheists of Mecca. Then He made lawful from among them the women of the People of the Scripture.
