Tafsir Ibn Abi Hatim
Volume 2 · Page 4And the third perspective:

Translation · EN

Meaning: The remembrance of their fathers in the Jahiliyyah, or with greater remembrance. It was narrated from Anas b. Malik, Abu Wa'il, 'Ata' b. Abi Rabah in one of his two statements, Sa'id b. Jubayr, 'Ikrimah in one of his narrations, Mujahid, al-Suddi, 'Ata' al-Khurasani, al-Rabi' b. Anas, al-Hasan, Qatadah, Muhammad b. Ka'b, and Muqatil b. Hayyan, the like of this.

The third interpretation:

1871 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Abu Usamah narrated to us, from 'Abd al-Malik, from 'Ata': "Then remember Allah as you remember your fathers," he said: It is [like] the child, the first thing he utters in speech is: "Oh my father, oh my mother."

The fourth interpretation:

1872 - My father narrated to us, Muhammad b. Mansur b. Thabit al-Khuza'i narrated to us, Abu Sa'id, the mawla of Banu Hashim, narrated to us, Sa'id b. Muslim b. Banak narrated to us, he said: I asked 'Ikrimah about the saying of Allah: "Then remember Allah as you remember your fathers." Is it my remembrance of my father? He said: No, but rather it is the remembrance of your father for you; for the parent is responsible for the child. It was narrated from al-Dahhak the like of this.

The fifth interpretation:

It was mentioned from Abu Usamah, from Abu Sa'd al-Baqqal, from Muhammad b. 'Ubayd Allah al-Thaqafi, from Ibn al-Zubayr, regarding "Then remember Allah as you remember your fathers," he said: They used to boast about their fathers when they finished their Hajj. So Allah said: "Then remember Allah as you remember your fathers." It was narrated from Muhammad b. Ka'b the like of this.

His saying: "Or with greater remembrance"

1873 - I read to Muhammad b. al-Fadl, Muhammad b. 'Ali b. al-Hasan b. Shaqiq narrated to us, Muhammad b. Muzahim informed us, Bukayr b. Ma'ruf narrated to us, from Muqatil b. Hayyan, regarding His saying: "Then remember Allah as you remember your fathers, or with greater remembrance," [meaning:] For I have done good to you and to your fathers. Then He commanded them to be even more mindful in their remembrance of Allah than their remembrance of their fathers.
