2150 - Abu Muhammad said: It was reported from al-Suddi the like of this, and he said: "This was before the expiations were revealed."
His saying: "And Allah is Hearing, Knowing"
And via the chain of narration from Sa'id b. Jubayr, regarding the word of Allah: "And Allah is Hearing, Knowing," meaning: the oath upon which they swore.
His saying: "Knowing"
2151 - And with the same chain from Sa'id b. Jubayr, regarding the word of Allah: "Knowing," meaning: He knew of it. This was before the expiation for an oath was revealed.
His saying: "Allah will not impose blame upon you for what is unintentional in your oaths"

2152 - Harun b. Ishaq al-Hamdani narrated to us, 'Abdah b. Sulayman narrated to us, from Hisham b. 'Urwah, from his father, from 'Aishah, regarding the word of Allah: "Allah will not impose blame upon you for what is unintentional in your oaths," she said: "It is a man's saying: 'No, by Allah,' and 'Yes, by Allah.'"
2153 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih the scribe of al-Layth narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, from Abu al-Aswad, from 'Urwah b. al-Zubayr, who said: 'Aishah used to say: "The unintentional (laghw) is only in jesting and frivolity; it is a man's saying: 'No, by Allah,' and 'Yes, by Allah.' There is no expiation for that. The expiation is only for what his heart has bound itself to do, then he does not do it." Abu Muhammad said: It was reported from Ibn 'Umar and Ibn 'Abbas in one of his two opinions, and al-Sha'bi and 'Ikrimah in one of his two opinions, and 'Ata', al-Qasim b. Muhammad, 'Urwah b. al-Zubayr, Abu Qilabah, al-Dahhak in one of his two opinions, Abu Salih, and al-Zuhri, the like of this.
The second interpretation, and it is one of the two opinions of 'Aishah:
2154 - It was read to Yunus b. 'Abd al-A'la, Ibn Wahb reported to us, the trustworthy one reported to me, from Ibn Shihab, from 'Urwah b. al-Zubayr, from 'Aishah, that she used to interpret this verse, meaning His saying: "Allah will not impose blame upon you for what is unintentional in your oaths," and she would say: "It is a thing that one of you swears upon, intending nothing but the truth, yet it turns out to be other than what he swore upon." Abu Muhammad said: It was reported from Abu Hurayrah, Ibn 'Abbas in one of his two opinions, Sulayman b. Yasar, Sa'id b. Jubayr, Mujahid in one of his two opinions, al-Hasan, Ibrahim, Zurarah b. Awfa, Abu Malik, 'Ata' al-Khurasani, Bakr b. 'Abd Allah, one of the two opinions of 'Ikrimah, Habib b. Abi Thabit, al-Suddi, Makhul, Muqatil, Tawus, Qatadah, al-Rabi' b. Anas, Yahya b. Sa'id, and Rabi'ah, the like of this.
